Type: Press Release

Miles & Stockbridge, a leading business law firm in the mid-Atlantic region, announced today that its Washington, D.C. office has moved to 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, a newly renovated, Class-A office building at the Metro Center stop between the White House and the United States Capitol Building.

The firm announced last November that it had signed a lease for 26,000 square feet of office space. Thirty-one Miles & Stockbridge lawyers and 12 staff colleagues currently work full time in the firm’s D.C. office. Several lawyers work at least one day per week there as well. The new space initially has offices for 55 lawyers and room for a total of 80 employees. It also is the only other Miles & Stockbridge office outside of its Baltimore office to accommodate firm-wide meetings and events with all of the firm’s principals—an important step as the firm focuses its growth in Greater Washington.

“We are thrilled to leave the traditional space behind,” said John A. Stalfort, managing director of Miles & Stockbridge’s Washington office. “We have planned for significant growth, as well as the generational shift within our firm, in many ways and expect our new space to support both in D.C.”

Miles & Stockbridge’s office was designed by D.C.-based architecture firm Alliance. The light-filled, modern space has a footprint of under 500 square feet per lawyer, making it one of the most efficient spaces in D.C. It has a window line that surrounds the building’s triangular interior atrium, providing significant light for all offices. Each lawyer office is the same size with glass fronts and ergonomic, technology-based furnishings. A bright palette is carried throughout the space, which includes five conference rooms, a centralized gathering place, and a treadmill room with a view toward the National Mall.

About Miles & Stockbridge’s D.C. Office

Miles & Stockbridge opened its Washington, D.C. office at 1801 K Street NW in February 2012. Sixteen months later, the firm doubled its footprint with a move to 1667 K Street and doubled its space again in 2015 with its move to 1500 K Street.

The firm has worked in the Greater Washington area for decades. It has more than 60 lawyers in its Washington, D.C., Rockville, Maryland, and Tysons Corner, Virginia offices. During the last 18 months, the firm has added 15 lateral lawyers in the Greater D.C. region. In total, more than 230 Miles & Stockbridge lawyers work in these offices and four others in Maryland.

The D.C. office focuses on financial services, public finance, real estate development, construction, environmental, nonprofit, government contracts, intellectual property, and manufacturing industries. Additionally, specific lawyer strengths in international family law and international child abduction matters, energy, education, and consumer product safety have been a good fit in the region.
