Altscher_Harry_E_129.jpgIt is with deep sadness that Miles & Stockbridge announces the unexpected passing of our esteemed principal, Harry Altscher, a long-standing and dedicated lawyer and pillar in our bond practice. Harry was a colleague for almost 40 years and revered across the firm and among his clients for his considerate counsel and deep knowledge of the law. More broadly, he was one of Maryland’s preeminent tax law lawyers in municipal finance law, and assisted in the financing of many of the most complex public projects and publicly financed private projects in the region—changing the face of many of our communities.

Harry was a fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel, a founding member and former director of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, a former chairman of its Committee on Federal Tax Matters, and chairman of its annual workshop. He earned an L.L.M. (Taxation) from George Washington University Law School.

Prior to joining Miles & Stockbridge, Harry served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corp. from 1973-1977.
