Kraig Long Wins Leadership in Law Award
Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that Kraig Long, a principal and member of the firm’s Labor, Employment, Benefits & Immigration practice, has been awarded The Daily Record’s Leadership in Law honor, which recognizes Maryland legal professionals whose dedication to their occupation and to their communities is outstanding.
Long has two decades of employer-side experience in labor and employment law, with a particular focus on the healthcare space. In February, he was elected to a second term on the board of directors at Miles & Stockbridge, where he is also a driver of diversity and inclusion efforts as co-leader of the law firm’s Diversity Committee.
“Kraig has built a thriving labor and employment practice while also taking on leadership roles both inside and outside our firm,” said Nancy W. Greene, chairman of Miles & Stockbridge. “He is a trusted advisor to his clients, a valued member of our board, and a sought after mentor in our firm.”
Long is an experienced litigator who focuses his practice on defending employers against claims on a broad range of employment matters, including discrimination, wrongful discharge, disability, family leave, wage-and-hour claims, non-competition agreements and harassment. He also counsels and trains clients on employment policies and procedures, as well as methods designed to minimize litigation risk. He is a frequent speaker on employment and labor law issues for human resource and healthcare organizations.
Since 2012, Long has served as president of the Judge Alexander Williams, Jr. Center for Education, Justice and Ethics, a think tank dedicated to finding ways to surmount some of the social and legal challenges facing underserved and disadvantaged communities today.
He has helped shepherd the Center from its earliest days as an independent entity hosting events that focused on recently released inmates and the challenges they face re-entering civilian life through its current partnership with the University of Maryland and the broader platform that collaboration provides. He also serves on the school’s faculty.
In addition to this significant leadership role, Long was selected by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to serve on the Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Commission for Prince George’s County. He also is an active member of the American, National, Maryland and District of Columbia Bar Associations. He is a former officer of the Small Business Law Section of the National Bar Association.
A longtime resident of Prince George’s County, Long is active in local politics and served until recently on the board of the Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center.
Long and other Leadership in Law winners will be recognized at a networking reception and awards dinner on May 16 at the BWI Hilton in Linthicum Heights, MD. Winners also will be profiled in a special section of The Daily Record.
