Laura Melia represents both individuals and businesses, with a focus on estate planning, business and corporate law, and real estate. A skilled negotiator, she has an impressive track record of successful settlements and contract negotiations.
For individuals and family groups, Laura advises on matters involving estate planning, administration and probate. She has experience with complex estate plans, including those involving family farms and family-owned businesses.
Both in Frederick and around the state of Maryland, Laura advises small business owners on a wide range of matters, including business formation, transition and succession planning, entity sales, and contract and commercial lease negotiations. She often represents franchisees on review and negotiation of franchise documents and agreements, buying and selling of franchise units, and issues with royalty fees.
Previously in solo practice, Laura joined Miles & Stockbridge in 2015 to give her clients access to the firm’s specialized employment, intellectual property and litigation services as their businesses grew and matured. She frequently serves in the capacity of outside general counsel for small business clients, drawing on her broad exposure to many areas of law and coordinating referral to other legal and professional services as needed.
In her 25 years of practice, Laura has built longstanding client relationships, including some from the earliest days of her legal career. Honored to earn the trust of her clients, Laura takes time to understand their unique circumstances and provide effective counsel tailored to help them achieve their goals.
