Joel L. Perrell, Jr.

Joel L. Perrell Jr. is a Principal in the firm's Baltimore office and Co-Leader of the Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy Group. Joel represents diverse clients (debtors, creditors, trustees, committees and other interested parties) in all aspects of bankruptcy cases. He has actively participated in bankruptcy cases, insolvency proceedings, restructurings and workouts throughout the United States involving retail, manufacturing, healthcare, airline, telecommunication, hotel and hospitality, commercial real estate, insurance and other commercial businesses.

Joel has developed an extensive insurance premium finance practice. He represents many of the country's largest insurance premium finance companies in regulatory and compliance matters, in collection and fraud actions, and in all aspects of bankruptcy cases. He also acts as general counsel to the National Premium Finance Association in selected matters of importance to the insurance premium finance industry. Joel’s experience includes significant commercial collection matters, Uniform Commercial Code Article 9 asset dispositions, and the enforcement and execution of judgments in multiple jurisdictions. He also has significant experience related to commercial and residential mortgage backed securities (CMBS and RMBS), both in and out of bankruptcy proceedings.

Joel joined the firm in 1998. From March 2004 through January 2006, he practiced law as a senior associate in the Litigation Group at Dickstein Shapiro LLP in Washington, D.C., working primarily on bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters. Joel earned undergraduate degrees in International Business and German Language and Literature fro m the University of Maryland at College Park and his law degree with honors fro m the University of Maryland School of Law, where he served as an articles editor of the Maryland Law Review.
