Principal
E. Hutchinson Robbins, Jr.

Hutch Robbins is a principal in the firm’s Commercial and Business Litigation practice group, and from 2006 through 2016 he served as the Chair and co-Chair of the practice group. He represents a broad array of businesses and individuals in business litigation, and he has extensive experience in all facets of state and federal trial and appellate practice. Hutch focuses much of his practice on the representation of financial institutions, but he also routinely represents parties to business disputes concerning, among other issues, sales of goods under the Uniform Commercial Code, breaches of fiduciary duty and fraud in corporate governance, ownership of real property and related property rights, breaches of contract, and business torts. Hutch counsels the firm’s clients in the areas of risk avoidance and alternative dispute resolution, and he provides contract review and business strategy advice to several of his clients. Hutch also serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, and is a Trustee of Baltimore Center Stage.

Examples of some of the results Hutch has recently obtained for his clients include:

  • Recovery in excess of $9 million to the sellers of an industrial filtration business in connection with a post-transaction dispute over withheld sales proceeds.
  • A full dismissal of federal securities and common law fraud claims against the purchasers of a specialty finance company.
  • Representation of a major, regional financial institution in the successful prosecution of claims against an estate and a trust to recover $52 million in debt.
  • A full defense verdict after a one month jury trial for a client charged with breaches of fiduciary duty and fraud in corporate governance.
  • Summary judgment for a national financial institution in a federal court putative class action alleging violations of the Electronic Funds Transfer Act.
  • A multimillion dollar settlement for an equipment manufacturer upon the inception of litigation against a sub-vendor concerning the design of critical component parts.
  • A jury verdict in excess of the amount demanded for a client whose efforts to raise venture capital for a software firm had gone unrewarded.
