Subprime & Distressed Credit Resolution

Miles & Stockbridge's Subprime and Distressed Credit Resolution Team counsels clients facing complex business and legal challenges related to troubled credit markets. A multi-disciplinary team of 20 lawyers from our Firm's commercial and business litigation, banking and finance, real estate transactions, creditors' rights and bankruptcy, and tax practices represents clients directly affected by the collapse of the subprime lending market, as well as those experiencing the ripple effect of the broader credit crunch.

Our lawyers represent lenders and investors involved in disputes and transactions arising from the provision of consumer and commercial financial services; ownership of real property and related property rights; investment into distressed credit markets; and business operations in a challenging economy.

We routinely litigate cases involving the full spectrum of consumer and commercial financial services; allegations of lender liability; breaches of fiduciary duty, fraud in corporate governance; the existence of and responsibility for insurance coverage; and general breaches of contract and business torts.

We also have extensive experience in representing clients involved in all phases of the restructuring process and in formulating creative workout strategies in and outside of insolvency proceedings. And as business advisors, we handle a significant amount of transactional, commercial finance and real estate work for clients' from reviewing contracts to advising on complex commercial and real estate matters.

Whatever the issue, we help clients assess their risks during these uncertain economic times, develop strategies to prevent and respond to issues, prepare for litigation, and explore alternative dispute resolution, when appropriate.
