Cox Replaces Jagemann Who Served as Chair Since 2004

BALTIMORE, MD, August 24, 2009 – Miles & Stockbridge P.C. announced today that George W. Cox, Ph.D., an associate with the law firm, has been named chair of the board of directors of the Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc. (FITCI).  Dr. Cox is also a member of its executive committee and chair of its Biotechnology Client Selection Committee.

Dr. Cox replaces Paula Jagemann, who served as chair since the FITCI was created in 2004.

ABOUT GEORGE W. COX

Dr. Cox represents public and private entities, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and other life sciences companies on diverse corporate issues, including entity formation, corporate governance, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, new product development, technology licensing, and general business and intellectual property matters.

Before attending law school, Dr. Cox had almost 20 years of biomedical research experience in the areas of pharmacology, immunology, cell biology and molecular biology. After receiving his Ph.D. in pharmacology, he obtained advanced training in immunology and molecular biology as a biotechnology training program postdoctoral fellow in the Biological Response Modifiers Program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He was promoted to senior staff fellow at the NCI, and continued his biomedical research on macrophage immunobiology and cytokine gene expression and function. Dr. Cox was also an assistant professor of pharmacology and molecular and cell biology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine.

Dr. Cox has significant experience teaching medical and graduate students, and has trained and mentored M.S., Ph.D. and M.D. level professionals. He has served on many academic and professional committees, including the Scientific Advisory Council of the American Type Culture Collection and the Membership and Constitution and Bylaws Committees of the Society for Leukocyte Biology. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for several research grant organizations and biomedical journals, including the National Institutes of Health, Blood, Cancer Research, Cellular Immunology, Cytokine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Leukocyte Biology, and The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. He was an associate editor and section editor for The Journal of Immunology for more than four years.

Dr. Cox has received several awards for his scientific research, and has been a guest lecturer at research conferences, pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions.

Dr. Cox received his law degree from The American University Washington College of Law. He received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and a B.A. in Chemistry and Zoology from Ohio Wesleyan University.
