A U.S. Army and combat veteran, Scholtes was honored for his work with Platoon 22, a traveling memorial started by the Frederick-based nonprofit organization 22 Needs a Face to increase awareness of suicide among veterans and encourage them to seek help.

“By providing pro bono legal services to Platoon 22, Jeremy is helping the organization to serve veterans who are struggling with post-traumatic stress,” said John B. Frisch, chairman and CEO of Miles & Stockbridge. “We’re proud of his exemplary service to our community and our country.”

Scholtes brings additional awareness to the sacrifice of the American military through his involvement with wear blue: run to remember, a national nonprofit organization that encourages people to train for and participate in endurance events in honor of fallen soldiers. He also is active in the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, chairs its Rotaract Committee for young leaders, and serves on the Rotary Club’s International Committee.

A recent graduate of Leadership Frederick County, a nine-month program conducted by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, Scholtes was selected by his class and delivered an inspiring speech about leadership.

The Pro Bono Advocate Award recognizes Miles & Stockbridge employees whose pro bono work exemplifies the firm’s strong tradition of public service. The Miles & Stockbridge Foundation makes a contribution to a charity designated by the award recipient each year.  Scholtes has selected Platoon 22 for this year’s donation.
